Glad you like it. You can certainly use it in a lot of situations like trying to get back into your 3-dimensional fictional world if you've taken a break of some sort. Nothing like harnessing the power of imagination and the 5 senses to fire up your creativity again!

Re: Don’t show. I've just pressed the publish button at Kindle for a short story
called Striptease, about - you guessed it! - and I used to be a dancer so I'm
kind of nervous that people might think I'm writing about me. My next book has
opinions in it that might get a bit of flack as well and because the character
is a writer, again, readers may think it's me - it is a little bit, of course,
but I don't want to be saddled with ire coming from my character's abuse of
badly behaved authors. So outside my comfort zone there because I hate making
waves.

I will be writing outside my comfort zone soonish though because I realised
that a story I started on ages ago and shelved because I didn't think I could
do it justice, is quite good and I should work on it some more. I know I can
write it well now. Trouble is, the story really does need a series of sex
scenes, and they need to be quite specific, because the relationship between
two of the central characters develops through their sexual encounters. I think
I'll be fine once I get into it, but it will be a big deoparture from my
presently published YA books.

It's all part of the journey though, isn't it?

Re: Hooking Your Reader by Carol Malone

If the backstory is vital to the story, we can weave it in discretely. But I believe your advice is the best - keep the backstory in the back.

Re: Hooking Your Reader by Carol Malone

Congratulations, D'Ann, that's fantastic. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the backstory, we think that's what the reader needs to know. But it never is! Thanks for sharing.

Re: A Deep Listening Practice for Writers

Brava Beth for sharing this step on your journey. BUT, I will say lovely process you have, here. Part 1 can be difficult because sometimes we are afraid of our feelings, afraid to feel vulnerable. If you embrace the process as an adventure, facing your fears and your feelings becomes empowering and exciting.

Re: Enter this Giveaway to win an Author Coaching session

I look forward to it, too, Lyn! I can write a good book, and I have a degree in Marketing, but times are changing so fast and my marketing savvy is 30 years old. That does me little to no good in today's marketing. It was a pleasure meeting the two of you in San Antonio and I look forward to working with you in the future.
